Basil Essential Oil

INCI: Ocimum basilicum

Basil Essential Oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and flowering tops of Ocimum basilicum. Although the plant originated in Asia, particularly India, it is now widely cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region and Europe. The essential oil is characterised by its fresh, sweet, herbaceous, and subtly spicy aroma, offering an uplifting and clarifying fragrance.

Traditionally used in aromatherapy, perfumery, and personal care products, Basil essential oil is appreciated for its refreshing and invigorating scent. It is commonly incorporated into massage oils, body care formulations, and home fragrance blends. It is also a popular natural ingredient in insect-repellent products. Its vibrant green aromatic profile makes it an excellent addition to soaps, lotions, and natural perfume compositions.

Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the leaves and flowering tops.

Origin: India and other Asian countries, as well as Mediterranean and European growing regions.

Contraindications: Basil essential oil should be used with particular care and only at low dilution levels. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Individuals with very sensitive skin should avoid topical application or seek professional advice before use. As with all essential oils, a patch test is recommended before topical application.
